The following is a blog written by Rebecca St. James on some inspiration she
received at GMA Music Week last week...
There are really some exciting things going on right now as followers of Christ are getting more involved in the arts. For instance, more doors seem to be open in our culture for family films and faith-based films. For so long it seemed as though true artists couldn't find their place in the church. But now many churches have started ministries that encourage the members of the body to use their artistic gifts for God's glory—in media such as drawing, painting, dance, pottery, theater, scriptwriting, set design, and video production. There are so many cool ways in which we can uniquely impact people's senses with God's message today. It's time for God's people to seize the day in the arena of the arts.
I was reminded again last week—there is a tremendous diversity of gifts in God!
We can't just settle for the status quo in our spiritual growth, and in the way we choose to express it. Our culture is moving so incredibly fast, sort of like moving sidewalks in airports. If you just let them take you, they will kick you off the tracks. You have to be moving with the times, you have to stay on your toes in an effort to reinvent yourself, otherwise it will throw you off the conveyor belt, and you will become absolutely irrelevant. You can opt to just coast along, doing the same old, same old. It's safer, and less risky, but where's the adventure? Where's the exhilaration? Where's the "seizing the day" mentality in that? I don't know about you, but I'm not a coasting kind of girl. God has created us to enjoy life to its fullest, and He delights himself in our creative pursuits. I encourage you to live out God's calling in your own life this week, my friends!
No "coasting!" Let's link arms and march boldly together into the creative future God is calling us too!
Rebecca"
